This program is based on a pilot study conducted by Dr. Suraj Achar, who showed the benefits of team sports on children with autism. In an effort to continue with this program and hopefully establish a permanent community sports program here in the San Diego area, we are recruiting volunteers for a larger scale initiative, in which volunteers will be given the chance to coach children with autism in various team sports and get involved with the various roles (ex. surveillance, data analysis, publicity, etc.) needed to keep a large, multifaceted program like this running in our community.
Soccer Drills
As kids grow, so do their skills on the field. This program builds confidence and teamwork through fun soccer drills, small-sided games, and active play. Players develop coordination, ball control, and decision-making in a supportive environment. Each session encourages effort, learning, and a love for the game.
Basketball Drills
As kids grow, so do their abilities on the court. This program develops fundamentals through fun basketball drills, small games, and skill-building activities. Players improve dribbling, shooting, passing, and teamwork in an encouraging environment. Each session builds confidence, coordination, and a strong love for the game.
Themed Practices
To build community and friendship, almost every month we plan our practices around a certain theme to be more engaging and fun for the kids!
